US State Department Special Representative for Western Balkans Matthew Palmer, in an interview for Serbian television N1, has said that for the United States reaching an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia is an issue of urgent character. That's what Palmer said when he was asked [...]
This is what Palmer said when he was asked if there is a deadline for reaching an agreement between the two states.
He has said further that the longer expected the harder and more complicated it will become.
Time is not on our side. The longer we wait, it will become more difficult and all the challenges ahead will become even more complicated”, Matthew said. Palmer.
The US diplomat has said that the US supports the process of dialogue led by the European Union and Slovak emissary Miroslav Lajcak, hoping that both sides will continue negotiations soon.
In this interview, Palmer has also spoken of the importance of implementing Brussels' agreements, including the Association of Major Serb Communities.
We have clearly told our partners in Belgrade and Pristina. It is the obligation of both sides to implement the Association of Serb majority municipalities, and this must happen”, Palmer continued.
Emissar UN for Western Balkans, Matthew Palmer, also talked about Albin Kurt's statements that dialogue is not one of the top priorities.
I have heard Mr. Kurti, which emphasises good transparency and governance and the fight against corruption and overhauling the situation in Kosovo. These are also our priorities, we want this to happen in Kosovo”, Palmer said.
However, Palmer says Kosovo should deal with foreign policy and co-operate with partners.
Kosovo can participate in dialogue in a constructive way by working even in internal reforms. I don't see any contradictions between these priorities”, Palmer said among other things.
In addition to other American emissary, it has stressed that some things have been achieved as a result of the Brussels Agreement and that dialogue “does not start from the front”.
