The European Union's Special Representative for Intermediation in the Kosovo dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, during an interview with the Serbian media “N1”, has shown what the leader of Vetevendosje Movement, Albin Kurtin, who won the elections in Kosovo with nearly 50 per cent of the vote.
Speaking of meeting with Kurti, which lasted more than three hours, Lajcak says Kurti has realised that dialogue is necessary, that he is willing to continue negotiations and that he will be the leader of the Kosovo delegation.
“He is willing to come to Brussels, meet with President Vuciq, and that will happen at an appropriate time, following the formation of the” institutions, the EU representative has said.
Lajcak has said he is expecting the formation of institutions in Kosovo to continue with the appointment of the meeting between Serbian leader Aleksandar Vuciq and the future prime minister of Kosovo, which is expected to be Albin Kurti, as the leader of the winning party.
I think we have enough time and I expect the first meeting to take place at an appropriate time after the formation of the necessary institutions (in Kosovo) and that can certainly happen before the summer”, the EU representative has said.
Lajcak says that the dialogue should focus within this year, citing that in the first part of next year, Serbia holds presidential elections.
We have enough time to focus on dialogue by year's end. Because, Serbia is awaiting elections next year, in spring”
I expect that the first meeting will take place at an appropriate time, following the formation of Kosovo institutions, and that could happen during the summer”, Lajcak said.
Citing that dialogue could be resumed after Kosovo is comfortable with forming institutions, Lajcak has said that “Kurti is convinced that these will be resolved immediately”.
Lajcak has visited Pristina on Monday and this week, where he stayed for days. Then he visited Belgrade.
The Kosovo dialogue, Serbia, in the past two years, has stalled. Initially, it was suspended in November 2018, after former Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj imposed a hundred per cent fee on Serbian products. Meetings between the parties in Brussels continued only when Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti (June, 2020) removed reciprocity his predecessor, Albin Kurti, imposed.
