The Philippines's ambassador to Brazil was dismissed after having mistreated one of the employees at her residence in Brassialia for months.
President Rodrigo Dutterte fired the former ambassador, following videos and images that became viral everywhere on social networks.
Duterte, who signed Mauro's discharge papers the day before, said: “There are rules to be followed. If someone fails, he/she will face consequences. ”
Mauro, who did not respond to an AFP request for an interview, will lose her pension rights and will no longer be allowed to work in a public office.
The images of security cameras, which show the period between March and October 2020, were used in the trial process set by the government's Filipino vs Mauro, who was appointed ambassador to Brazil in 2018.
Millions of Filipino citizens work abroad. However, some of these workers work under difficult, even dangerous, conditions. In many cases they are a target of physical or psychological abuse.
