Zeka: There could be sustainable economic development when there is a shortage of capital projects

The chairman of the American Chamber of Economics in Kosovo (OEAK), Arian Zeka, has said that during this year a large part of the money means for capital spending has shifted to other aspects that are mainly about management of pandemic. He even said the government's main focus should be support [...]
What we can say is due to the pandemic even in the past year, but even this year a large part of the money means for capital spending has been shifted to other aspects that have largely to management of pandemic”.
“We as the American Economic Ode constantly urge governments not only this government but also others to be careful with the expenses of social categories because if this continues to increase in the years ahead, then budget stability can also be jeopardised and deepen budget deficits that could affect the growth of taxes which would carry the business”.
According to him, it is meaningless to increase spending on aspects that do not directly affect economic development, and then carry the burden on their own.
Zeka said there were not many capital projects which were envisioned in the 2022 budget, adding that in this case there can be no private sector strengthening and a sustainable economic development.
While adding that economic growth during 2021 has come from the private sector driven by consumption.
If we see economic growth during the year 2021 especially during the summer months or mid-year, growth has come from the private sector driven by consumption, which we can link with diaspora remittances. The same time should be stressed that by the first weeks of this year, citizens have had the opportunity to withdraw 10% of their personals. We're talking about 200m euros that were withdrawn at the end of last year and at the beginning of this year that a large part of them have ended up in economic activities”. / EO
