Derek Chollet, senior adviser to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, was speaking before Friday's meeting in the Bosnian Serb assembly, which is expected to vote on whether to start with the process of leaving the Bosniak army, the judiciary and the tax system.
These steps, called by nationalist leader Milorad Dodik, would present a major step towards partition.
There will likely be a six-month extension before assembly decisions are issued, but the vote would have the hour started towards the return of the conflict.
“We have really tried to speed up some of our diplomatic efforts to save Bosnia,” said Chollet, The Guardian, translates Periscope.
During the recent war, Bosnian Serbs had made ethnic cleansing, a nearly four-year siege of Sarajevo, and the destruction of “'s safe account” for the UN in Srebrenica. About 100,000 people were killed in the war.
As Senator, Biden had supported American military assistance to the Bosnian Muslim government.
Blinken has threatened Dodik with sanctions, but the latter has declared that “eats dicks for those sanctions”.
