At the centre of the investigation is a suspected gang of establishing and using a network of companies in Germany and abroad to send citizens of countries outside the EU illegally as temporary workers for large logistics companies, federal police said.
Police made several arrests in Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen and Lower Saxon, authorities said, adding that they have planned to seize assets worth millions of euros. It is not clear which companies have been the target of the investigation.
The companies “Amazon” and “Deutsche Post”, which are the main ones in Germany's logistics sector, have not responded immediately to the demand for comment, Reuters writes, the newspaper Express.
Federal police, Berlin public prosecutors and the customs office are expected later in the day to hold a press conference about the results of the raids.
