The new COVID version, Omitron, has spread to 50 countries, 19 of them US states. So Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochell Walensky said on Tuesday.
“While we are still working to understand the severity of the omitron, as well as how it reacts to therapies and vaccines, we anticipate that all measures, in part, offer some protection against Omitron”, Walensky said during a press release.
The leading American immunologist, Anthony Fauci, said health experts would have some data on Omitron by the middle of next week.
“We will be able to determine whether antibodies educated by all vaccines lose their effectiveness capacity with Omitron“, Fauci said.
According to the World Health Organization, the Omitron variant is likely to spread worldwide, presenting a highly high “ ” global risk. Omitron will not even save the vaccinated because an increase of cases and infections is forecast to be small.
