Borrell: There have been many Kosovo-Serbia tensions, we have to go back to dialogue because there is no other way to stabilise the situation

The parties should return to the negotiating table, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell said on December 1st, until he spoke about dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia from Latvia where the meeting of NATO member states foreign ministers is being held. “As for Kosovo and Serbia, we have [...]
As far as Kosovo and Serbia are concerned, we have had many tensions over the summer. The situation is quieter lately. But the dialogue needs to be restored because there is no other way to stabilise the” situation, Borrell said, speaking to the media on the eve of the meeting.
Talks on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia have started since 2011. A number of agreements have been reached since then, but most of them have not been implemented in practice.
Recently the obstacle in dialogue was made, the agreement to establish the Association of Major Serb municipalities in Kosovo. The aim of the dialogue is said to be to reach a comprehensive and legally binding agreement for both sides.
As far as Borrell is concerned, the Western Balkans is a strategic region for the EU until it contributes to the fact that a part of the countries of this region are already members of NATO.
Borrell also spoke about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina ( BiH) saying it tends to reverse 26 years of peace and stability in this state.
The political situation in BiH has deteriorated after Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik threatened with the partition of Republika Srpska ʹ Serb-residently inhabited entities from the rest of the country.
He also threatened that BiH Serbs could withdraw from the country's common military. Dodik took that stance following the adoption of the law, which prohibits denial of genocide in Bosnia. / REL/
