Ambassador Jeffrey Hovenier was sworn in before US Undersecretary of State on political issues Victoria Nuland as the new ambassador to Kosovo on Tuesday.

At the hearing session on 5 October this year, Ambassador Jeffrey Hovenier before the US Senate's Foreign Affairs Commission said his priority and part of American diplomacy would be to encourage five EU states that do not recognise Kosovo, to do so.

He has also said his priority will be support for Kosovo as a sovereign state, as well as support for dialogue, which should focus on mutual recognition.

Otherwise, Jeffrey Havenier was confirmed by the Senate as ambassador of the United States of America to Kosovo in November of this year.

The news was made known on the official site of the American Senate.

“Jeffrey M. Hovenier from Washington, Senior Foreign Service member, the District of the Minister-Consulent, will be the extraordinary and almighty ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Kosovo.

Hüvenier is a career diplomat of the American foreign service who has been part of the United Nations Special Envoy's staff for the status of Kosovo.

In the position of ambassador to Pristina, he will replace, the current ambassador, Philip Costett.
