Slovakia will distribute money to citizens over 60 years of age in order to accept vaccines.
Parliament approved the payment today, giving “to the green framework” a government proposal, which originally intended to distribute vouchers for hotels or restaurants, but eventually chose to offer cash.
Those who do the corresponding dose by mid-January will benefit 300 euros, while those over 60 who have registered on the vaccine platform by then will benefit 200 euros.
Slovakia is not the first country to choose this approach. In October, Switzerland offered citizens who had been convinced by their friends to vaccinate against Covid-19 free meals at restaurants and film tickets.
The American city of Houston, in August, announced that it would pay $100 for anyone who gets the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
Slovakia, with a population of 5.5 million, has been hit hard by the recent wave of the epidemic and has restored deadlock measures, as its hospitals are full. g.v/abcnews. al
