On November 4th of last year, he had announced he would leave for The Hague.
I have known and will always know to protect the freedom of the people, the state of Kosovo and the glorious KLA”, he had said among other things.
The following year, family members express pride in his work.
His wife, Albanian Mehmeti-Selim, deputy of the Kosovo Parliament through her Facebook account, speaks of sacrifices and pride.
Open with the nation's sacrifices! We're proud of you.
Rexhep Selimi has been declared innocent of the war crimes indictment and crimes against humanity, which has been confirmed against him by the Specialised Chambers in The Hague.
According to Selimi, at the end of this process all will be convinced that “as I and neither the Kosovo Liberation Army have anything to do with crime nor with joint criminal enterprise, as we are falsely named in this act”.
According to the indictment, Selimi is suspected of criminal acts involving war crimes, unlawful or arbitrary bans, cruel treatment, torture and unlawful crimes against humanity, imprisonment, other inhumane acts, forced disappearance of persons and persecution, which, according to Specialised Chambers, were committed between March 1998 and September, 1999.
The crimes allegedly were committed in several Kosovo locations and in northern Albania, in Kukes and Chahan respectively.
The court secretary who had read the ten points of the indictment had said there is a doubt based on Selimi bearing criminal responsibility for committing these crimes.
