Barbados is a small island that stretches east of the Caribbean and north of South America, not far from Venezuela. There has been a certain level of sovereignty since 1966, when it has joined the United Nations.
The island has an area of 439 square miles [439 sq km], and according to the estimated 2019, it has some 287 thousand inhabitants. Most of the population are of African descent. Barbados is known as a popular tourist destination.
