I think it's time for Kosovo to have visa liberalisation sometime next year. This does not, of course, depend on us. But whenever we meet European colleagues and friends, they all see it as a great injustice to Kosovo and the other side. The EU has more self-confidence, and this translates into a greater credibility in Kosovo and in the countries of the Western Balkans”, he said.
The Committee for Civil Freedoms, Justice and Internal Affairs in September 2019 has supported visa liberalisation for Kosovo. A majority of 49 lawmakers agreed to start talks with the EU Council on the proposal to abolish visas for Kosovo.
Similar votes were held in September 2018 and March 2019, but the mandate for talks with the EU Council had to be renewed following the general EU elections in May.
Visa liberalisation for Kosovo remains still controversial in the EU Council, as France and the Netherlands continue to hesitate to give the Council a mandate to negotiate with parliament.
