EU representatives support institutions in fighting violence against women

The chief of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Thomas Szunyog, and the chief of the EU's Mission for Law Rule in Kosovo, Eulex, Lars-Gunnar Wigermark, through a joint statement have reiterated their commitment to supporting Kosovo institutions and society as a whole in the fight against gender-based violence.
This Thursday is marking the International Day for Elimination of Violence on Women and the launch of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, which will last until December 10th.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the campaign, while in these 30 years, the voices of activists and survivors have challenged gender-based violence at a point where no one can ignore it anymore.
The love of women and girls was already widespread even before the COVIDD-19 pandemic changed our lives more than 18 months ago. By increasing pre-existing gender inequality, the pandemic has further exacerbated gender-based violence”.
This is why the call to end violence against women cannot be left to activists and civil society alone. It requires mobilising all parties interested in all society and institutional and guiding engagement through tangible actions and providing dedicated funds, awareness and adaptable efforts to change deep-rooted socio-cultural norms” is said in the joint statement.
