Based on data from Kosovo health institutions, in recent weeks it is marking a drop in the number of cases with people infected by COVID-19, as well as the number of cases of deaths by Coronavirus.

But the question is, what is the reality of such an epidemiological situation when Kosovo institutions do not have the data on the epidemiological situation in Serb-run municipalities, where is the rise of cases with new infections being noted?

According to the Kosovo Health Ministry's data, there are currently about 440 active coronary cases in Kosovo, until the November 4th Report of the North Mitrovica Community Crisis Staff, which includes data from all Serb majority municipalities in Kosovo, figures 409 active cases.

The health system in Serb-run majority municipalities in Kosovo is completely separate from Pristina's central health system.

The Kosovo Health Ministry on November 4th has informed that in the last 24 hours, 14 new cases of COVIID-19 have been recorded, while in the 24-hour report of the Crisis Staff from Northern Mitrovica there are 75 new cases with coronary infected.

Both reports say that there were no cases of death. Even November 5th, 14 cases have been recorded, according to information from the Kosovo Health Ministry.

Kosovo authorities have earlier said that data from Serbian municipalities is not taken for technical or non-political reasons. As they have said, at the beginning of the pandemic, majority Serb municipalities have sent the Kosovo National Public Health Institute reports on the situation with COVID-19, but the practice has already been interrupted.

The Kosovo Ministry of Health has not answered Radio Free Europe's questions about the epidemiological situation in Serb majority municipalities and how this is reflected in Kosovo as a whole.

Infectologist in Pristina Izet Sadiku also did not want to comment on the fact that Kosovo does not have the data for Serb-run populated municipalities, saying it is in the competence of the MSH.

He, however, has added that Kosovo should be cautious, even though “is marking the drop in cases”.

“According to information, in all European states it is evident to increase the number of cases with koronavirus, and that can also cause Kosovo to face new waves of” infection.

Even Kosovo National Institute of Public Health Director Naser Ramadani has declared Radio Free Europe on November 4th that the epidemiological situation in Kosovo is unstable, as the rate of coronary infection in the region is high.

On November 4th, over 6,000 new positive cases and 64 victims have been recorded in Serbia, in Bosnia over 1,000 new cases and 32 victims -- in northern Macedonia 550 cases and 16 victims -- in Montenegro over 700 cases and 6 victims from COVID-19.

Kosovo National Institute of Public Health Director Naser Ramadani has said the epidemiological situation could deteriorate, in case of increasing the number of new cases.

He has warned that such a thing could present new overloads for the health system and health professionals.

Current situation with infection, surveillance in Kosovo

On November 5th, 16 patients with COVIDD-19 are being treated at the University Clinical Centre in Kosovo and general hospitals.
However, the situation is deteriorating in Serb-run municipalities. The director of the Clinical Hospital Centre in North Mitrovica, Zlatan Ellek, has confirmed this for Radio Free Europe.

At this center, currently, 67 patients are hospitalised, mainly unexcused against the coronary.

“Three patients are in the respiratory centre, two are in a very serious mood. All patients have lung burns. In recent times there is an increase in the number of young people affected by coronarys, who are actually carriers of the”, Ellek said.

Meanwhile, in Gracanica, because of increasing the number of cases, the Department for COVID has been reopened.

Coronavirus infected by Serb majority municipalities are mainly treated in Gracanica or North Mitrovica. The most serious cases are sent to medical centres in Serbia's cities, mainly Krushevc.
