The Commission for Business, Work and Transfer has recommended the names of candidates for three non-ex executive members of the Kosovo Central Bank board (BQK) to Kosovo Parliament.
Commission Chairman for Business, Work and Transfere Armen Muja has indicated that all candidates meet the legal conditions, while adding that it remains “deputs to elect members”.
On the first list of meeting the position for an not executive member of the BEC Board are: Bashkim Nuboro, Bedri Peci, But Deday, Kosovar Ukshi and Mimoza Mustafa.
Meanwhile, voting for non-ex executive members of the Kosovo Central Bank Board is conducted by a secret vote in the Kosovo Assembly.
Likewise, a second list of seven potential candidates for the position of two other non-executive members of the BEC Board has been approved. The second list consists of candidates: Behxhet Brajshori, Driton Balaj, Edona Perjuci Uka, Imrije Zeqiri, Nora Latifi Jashari, Nuhi Ahmeti, Petrit Gashi.
Even this list is expected to be handed over to the Assembly, where their vote by MPs is expected at one of the next sessions.
Meanwhile, since June 2020, the Kosovo Central Bank has been on board.
The European Commission has urgently recommended their choice in the Progress Report released on October 19th.
But, besides the lack of the Board, the CEC is operating even without approved budgets, as this process is the competence of the board. Meanwhile, the CEC is currently exploiting the pre-year budget.
Economics Professor Safet Gerjaliu had told Albanian Post that the lack of the BEC board is very disturbing.
“In all fairness, we have long alarmed the situation in the absence of the Kosovo Central Bank board, and given the fact that Kosovo is going into a pandemic, in a political pandemic and given the fact that reports in the north, I believe that the Central Bank's role is downsized”.
