The politician, who comes from the ranks of the opposition Republican Party in central power, is one of the most vocal leaders against the inoculation of anti-Condius-19 mandatory.
It has drafted similar decrees since the beginning of the pandemic, but this is the first time when private employers and their clients are included in the order, the BBC writes.
Abbott called for his decision to vote to turn it into law. “Vaxina for Covid-19 is safe, effective and our best defense against the virus, but it remains voluntary and never mandatory”, the governor's statement said.
His order presents clear opposition to the democratic president, Joe Biden, who last month urged companies to make vaccination mandatory for their staff.
The executive orders of US states carry the force of law, but can be rendered invalid through a judicial review, if deemed to be violations of state laws and codes
