Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, on his fifth visit to the island since the volcano explosion last month, said his government would adopt legislation that would send millions of euros in aid to those in need.
Sanchez's government has already allocated 63m euros to help this island, while another six million have been earmarked for local agriculture and fishing industries.
The washing streams from the eruption in the volcanic ridge of Cumbre Vieya have damaged or destroyed more than 2,100 buildings, mainly houses and farms. About 7,500 residents have had to be evacuated from their homes.
