Richard Gere, who had raised Kosovo's issue during the war, starts to testify against politicians

Hollywood star Richard Gere will testify in the trial against Italian politician Matteo Salvin. The prosecutor initially rejected Gere's presence, but the lawyer of “Open Arms”, who quoted the American actor, repeated: “Gere was aboard the ship on August 9, 2019 and can tell us what general situations were on board” [...]
The actor's call among the witnesses has not been appreciated by Salvin, who has made fun of him.
Tell me how serious it is to have a trial where Richard Gere will come from Hollywood to testify against me. I hope it lasts as short as possible because there are more important things to take care of”, the head of “Legas” commented, Report Express broadcast.
Gere's testimony at the “Open Arms” trial is evidence of the American actor's ten-year commitment to supporting civil affairs. A commitment that has lasted since the 1970s and has focused on various issues: from socio-edical to health, from cultural to political.
Voting to Kosovo
In 1999, on his visit to a Kosovo refugee camp, Gere raised the issue of Kosovo refugees. He called for an intervention by the international community in their support.
Taking into account that the bombings are led by the United States and the British, their commitment to refugee recovery must be much, much larger. Of course it is up to the developed countries of the world, especially NATO countries, to take on much more responsibility than they have”, the critical actor expressed.
Years later, the actor has rescinded this theme in the film “The Hunting Party”, published in 2007, based on a true story. In the movie he played Simon Hunt, a journalist in the footsteps of Bosnia's most wanted war criminal under the nickname “andpra”, based on the history of the Serbian criminal Radovan Karadzic, later arrested in 2008.
In 2012 Gere received from then president of Albania Bamir Topi a medal of honour for keeping an eye on Kosovo and for his contribution to making the world known the tragedy of Kosovars.
The noted actor was involved in other humanitarian issues, such as immigrants and homeless, in the fight against AIDS, Tibet's independence campaign, commitment to indigenous peoples, commitment to building schools and hospitals, etc.
