Former head of the Kosovo Economic Ode (OEK) Safet Gerjaliu in an interview for Online Economy has said the pandemic has caused the world to face economic crisis by not bypassing Kosovo either.
But according to him, changing governments has also contributed to this crisis that has made the situation difficult to increase prices for products.
According to him, the Government and the local level should address budgets for 2021, as which should pass at the end of October.
“As an expert, we have warned that after the David-19 pandemic, the world will face an economic crisis, and thanks to a globalism that is dominated by the world and Kosovo cannot be overlooked in this regard. In Kosovo we have a political campaign that has been lasting since the beginning of the pandemic. I say this based on the fact that we have had two election mandates at the central level, three governments, and that makes the situation difficult in Kosovo. An increase in strategic product prices” has been seen.
“In the first place, economic-based and interest-based profits are used for political-strategic purposes to achieve specific goals. The world is in a more frustrating situation as far as reports are concerned, and this all hits that the first item will be much more expensive”.
He explains society in Kosovo is dependent on import will have much harder, all because according to him, the political agenda is taking over in the country.
“Energy and energy resources will be used for mechanisms as projection, and all of this will affect our price hikes in Kosovo as well. The very fact that Kosovo exports cash ready and is an import-dependent society will be much more difficult for itself, and for itself the fact that the political agenda is taking over in Kosovo and the economy is being bypassed, I believe citizens will have much more difficult”.
According to him, the results of the run-offs should be expected so that it can know what the approach of institutions will be, adding that the increase in prices in Kosovo is becoming uncontrolled, EO reports.
The “in Kosovo must be expected to run the run-off in November and know what institutional approach will be. Government and local levels should also direct or address budgets for 2021. The last day of budget to pass to Government is the end of October. Politics is that it is drowning the economy socially in Kosovo. But the concern that makes the social aspect of Kosovo even harder is that we have uncontrolled price hikes. Kosovo today has peaceful currency euro inflation 4.9%, which is an alarming figure”, Gerjaliu said.
Based on the two-month increase, world food prices in September reached their highest monthly average since October 2011.
As the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations reports (FAO), the monthly Food Price Index averaged 130 points, increasing by 1.5 points, or 1.2 percent from August, driven by the tightening of supply conditions and strong demand for key products such as wheat and palm oil.
