In northern Mitrovica and Zvecan, a day after protests and barricades, the situation is calm. Barricades have been withdrawn and citizens can move freely on the streets of these two Serb-run municipalities.
However, signs of violence are still visible on the streets, as on 13 October, citizens protested a Kosovo Police and Customs action against smuggling goods.
Ten police officers and ten citizens of this municipality sought medical assistance in the protests that followed. Meanwhile, eight persons have been arrested under suspicion of smuggling, most of them Albanians. Free Europe Radio brings some photos taken on October 14th in northern Mitrovica and Zvecan.
