A US air strike today in northwest Syria killed Al-Qaeda senior leader Abdul Hamid al-Matar”, Major John Riggsbee said through a statement.
He added that there is no knowledge of other consequences, while the attack has been carried out using a MQ-9-type fears, writes France24.
“Elimination of this top al-Qaeda leader will hinder the terrorist organisation's ability to plot and conduct further global” attacks, Riggsbee said.
In late September, the Pentagon killed a senior commander of the Al-Qaeda group in Syria, Salim Abu-Ahmad, through an air strike near Idlib, northwest of Syria.
The conflict in Syria has created a complex battlefield involving foreign armies, militant groups, and jihadists. Since its beginning in 2011, the war in Syria has left about half a million people dead, while protests against power have been brutalised.
