Foreign media say that powerful winds have swept away the roofs of homes as water enters many dwellings. The so-called “Athina” storm of Greek metereologists has also caused tremendous damage to road infrastructure near the coastal villages of Agia Anna and Psaropoulos, a local official told ERT.
Ten houses are flooded; the streams came out of bed, even though the rain lasted only a few hours. This is a sign that this winter will be very tough”, Governor George Keladitis said.
According to him, fortunately there are no reports of people trapped in houses or cars.
The July forest fires destroyed whole parts of the island of Evia and Rhodes, along with several areas north and southeast of Athens and the Peloponnese peninsula, reports Top Channel.
To escape them, hundreds were then evacuated urgently, and three people died and some were seriously injured. Two days ago, German media Focus.de warned of the danger of extreme rainfall in Greece and in southern Albania.
