The former head of the Royal Marines, Matthew Holmes, has died as a result of hanging after “of concerns” for his marriage and career, an investigative session was told.
Major General Holmes, 54, who served in Kosovo, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan, was commander of the Royal Marines from 2019 to April of this year.
He was found in a bedroom at his home in Winchester, Hampshire, on October 2nd, writes BCC.
At the Winchester hearing, police had reportedly reacted to an incident at his family's home on 22 September.
Legal doctor Jason Pegg said at an investigative session at Winchester: “It is alleged that Matthew Holmes had a number of concerns at the time of his death, including issues related to his marriage and service career”.
Pegg said the body of Major General Holmes was officially identified by his wife, Leah.
At the time of his death, the views were made by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Defence Secretary Ben Wallace.
