The murder of conservative British MP David Ames, who died Friday from knife slaughter, has been declared by authorities as a terrorist incident.
A 25-year-old man, believed to be British with Somali descent, has been arrested under suspicion of killing the MP and being detained. Sources have told the newspaper “The Guardian” that he has the same data as a person who used to refer to the official programme for those thought to be at risk of radicalisation.
Through a statement, Metropolitan police said the top national co-ordinator for anti-terrorism policies, Dean Haydon, has formally declared the terrorism incident. Police said initial investigations show a possible motive linked to Islamic extremism.
News of the attack on MP terrified the British throughout the country, including his colleagues, religious leaders, and other figures. Before the government buildings and the assembly, flags were lowered to half apiece.
Great Britain's Home Affairs Secretary Priti Patel has ordered immediate reviews of security measures for MPs. The Internal Secretary has asked all police forces to review security regulations for immediate MPs and will provide timely updates”, a spokesman said.
