Based on recent developments, Albanian students in Switzerland have taken a symbolic action Sunday before the Consulate of the Republic of Kosovo in Geneva.
According to them, the move aims to denounce the lack of political will on the part of institutions to facilitate the diaspora's civic participation in the February 14th elections.
“All obstacles that we present in reporting “Diaspora VoterVa” are set to prevent the exercise of voting rights”, they say, albinfo.ch reports.
Protesters have said they want to point out that no individual working in the consulates is at stake.
We consider that this country belongs to Kosovo citizens and that its officials serve people, not the other way around. Furthermore, the state of Kosovo must guarantee human and financial resources to enable embassies and consulates to conduct the election process. In this direction, we symbolically facilitate our state organs. We preferred to broadcast diaspora votes in garbage bags because we believe this is their fate”, they say.
