The ambassador of the United States to Podgorica, Judy Reinke, named the announcement of the final outcome of the parliamentary elections in Montenegro as the historical “ ” for this country's democracy.
State Election Commission announced on Monday Final Results in the August 30th elections, under which the up-to-date opposition parties have won most of the mandates for MPs.
The US government enjoys partnership with the future government, constitutionalised through a democratic process”, Ambassador Reinke said in a statement sent to the media in Montenegro.
“While the democratic process continues in the period of forming the new government, the US government welcomes the promises of various political leaders that they will keep Montenegro on the Euro-Atlantic road, that it will preserve key elements of Montenegrin foreign policy and that it will give priority to reforms needed to accelerate membership in the European Union”, Reinke said, also calling for protection of minorities in Montenegro, human rights and key principles of democracy.
The three up-to-date opposition coalitions, expected to form Montenegro's government, are: “For the future of Montenegro”, “Peace is our nation” and our “black in white”.
Their leaders signed 9 September one Deal with seven principlesOn which the future government will rely.
These include: continuing co-operation with NATO and failing to question recognition of Kosovo's independence.
Members of Montenegro's “coalition for the future have called in the past for attracting Kosovo's recognition of Montenegro and have rejected this country's membership in the NATO military alliance.
