Hungary has signed a contract with Rheinmetall Company for the purchase of new Lynx generation combat vehicles worth more than two billion euros, the German concert reported today.
Lynx is a combater infantry vehicle of a new generation module model, and Hungary's Defence Ministry ordered the purchase of 218 Lynx vehicles KF41 and nine armoured vehicles for the Buffalo pull.
The first group will be handed over from Germany, and most will be produced in a Hungarian factory, owned jointly by Budapest and Rheinmetal.
Hungary is the first member of NATO and the EU to choose this vehicle. Unlike the rest of the region, this country has acquired exclusively sophisticated new generation equipment in recent years.
Through the modernisation programme “Zrinski 2026”, 44 Leoard 2A7 tanks and 24 air aircraft PzH-2000 have already been ordered by Germany for half a billion euros.
According to the manufacturer, Lynx provides a high degree of protection for the crew and soldiers from improvised explosive devices, direct and indirect fire, cluster ammunition and antitank missiles.
