During yesterday, Trudeau asked Julie Payette, the general governor, who earlier ended the current parliamentary sessions. He pledged he would continue on September 23rd with a speech from the throne, followed by a no-confidence vote.

Jagmeet Singh, leader of the New Democrats, also questioned the timing of Trudeau's decision.
