In pandemic times, citizens are also facing seasonal flu

The difference between these viruses, according to health professionals, is that the new coronary is more severe than seasonal viruses, due to its rapid spread.

As for symptoms, there are similarities, such as fever, fever, throat pain, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, and so on.

Health professionals have said that the number of patients at the Family Medicine Center has begun to increase in addition to the number of coronary infected.

What remains a challenge is to identify the disease, in this case the seasonal virus by the coronary, which causes COVID-19.

The family doctor, Ilire Bunnjak, told Radio Free Europe, that many symptoms of seasonal flu are similar to those of COVID-19. Even so, not every patient with marks of coronary, is tested. So, says Dr. Bögnac, there are medical concessions, and the challenge remains in the same symptoms between the seasonal virus and the coronary.

What we're seeing is increasing the number of patients who are looking for help and every symptom they're connecting to COVID-19, so the number of patients has grown recently”.

“Problem remains the correct detection of the virus. While a test for COVIED-19 requires that the patient have a temperature of over 38.5 and the oxygen bill is below 95 percent. Otherwise, the doctor estimates that there are concessions on the part of patients as well as on the part of doctors, since symptoms are almost the same”, Bulnjak said.

By contrast, according to the National Institute of Public Health, there were 16,000 recorded cases of seasonal flu during 2019.

The year 2018, it was closed to 11 people dead from the seasonal flu, for which reason the authorities had declared the world the epidemic of flu. Until in 2019 they don't have a death record of people with seasonal flu.

Lindita Ayzaj, director of the Infectious Clinic, said that because of the condition created with the COVID-19 pandemic, although there are patients with symptoms of the virus, who try to seek help in the Infective Clinic, there are already only positive patients with COVID-19.

She adds that in contrast to the previous months, when the first cases of coronarys began to appear, any citizens who had symptoms and who were reported to the Infectious Clinic have been identified as positive or not to COVID-19.

This is not happening anymore because, as Ajazaj says, of overloading patients with COVIDD-19 with the clinic.

At the Emergency Clinic of the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo, director Basri Lenyan indicated that there are patients with symptoms of the virus being reported in emergency.

Until they find out if they're positive with COVIDD-19 or are with seasonal viruses, patients stay in a space already dedicated to them.

We as Emergency Clinic “have created space from three beds where accession and diagnosis are made, and then sent to responsible clinics. The Emergency Clinic is on alert to support clinics, but it needs to be preserved because there are many other diseases, cases of injuries, poisonings and these cases overload the clinic, but despite this there is a collaboration with clinics dealing with COVID-19”, Lenyan said.

Otherwise, another characteristic that distinguishes the new coronary from seasonal viruses is the lack of medicine approved to treat it.

Patients with COVIDD-19 are constantly being treated with support therapy, since there is no therapy approved by the World Health Organization.

Microbiologist Lull Raka has already claimed that both viruses spread along the same route, through contact, spray and, more frequently, through affected things.

Hence, even in their prevention, he says, the same measures of public health are used, such as hand hygiene, wearing bandages during coughing and sneezing, wearing a mask, and physical distance.

But Raca microbilog says that the distinguishing element between the seasonal virus and the coronary is at the rate of spread.

“The speed of spreading infection is an important distinguishing element. The flu has a shorter average incubation time and a shorter serial interval than the virus caused by COVID-19. The serial interval for the latter is estimated to be 5-6 days, while the flu is 3 days”, Raka explains.

According to Rakes, however, the mortality rate from COVID-19 is 6.8 percent on a global level, but it includes only reported cases in health institutions. For seasonal flu, meanwhile, mortality is usually 0.1 percent, he says.
