The memorial of Kosovo children's sacrifice, conceived by Nusret Plana, is being asked to take place through an international architecture competition, reports Online Economy.
The renowned Kosovo architect Arian Bytyci has this request. Although supporting this initiative, Bytyci criticises local institutions for failing to build the UCK War Museum and Independence.
I think this is a shooting initiative in view that even Kosovo institutions have not undertaken anything serious in this direction of documenting the sacrifice of the people of Kosovo for freedom and independence. Kosovo still does not have the UCK war museum, but does not have the Independence monument it should be in the capital, where it should have been introduced to the sacrifices of the people of Kosovo”, he said.
Bytyci in an interview for Online Economics has said such initiative is very shot but that international competition should be opened so that according to him it would encourage the participation of international architects.
The “therefore the initiative for this monument is shot. In architectural terms this should be handled through an international architecture contest that would encourage the participation of architects that are necessary to design a monument of the Kosovo children's war, which would have to begin and have clear vision for the contemporary presentation of the sacrifice for Kosovo children in order to build a unique architectural monument that would be part of the cultural identity of Kosovo”, he added.
Bytyci says the international contest would help Kosovo at the time it faces the Special Court.
“Given the sacrifice of war is not documented at such a high level, and Kosovo has found a significant historical moment and the announcement of an international architecture competition for the monument to the sacrifice of Kosovo children for freedom would be good news for Kosovo in the international arena”, he tells EO.
While talking about it, the renowned Kosovo architect says the approach of institutions other than the international competition should also be the selection of the professional jury.
The institutional framework regarding the realisation of this monument would have to be the announcement of an international architecture contest, which would also be drafted in co-operation with the initials of this monument, but with the participation of world architects who have knowledge of war museums. The project selection jury that would be an international result in architecture should be creditable in order for their names to be made public and not have situations with such sensitive issues to manipulate”, he says.
