The annual poll, conducted by Gallup, casts doubt on US Secretary of State Mike Pompeos' claims on Friday, said the US was “the perfect and positioned” to lead the free world in a new ideological rivalry with the Chinese Communist Party.
The US had a 33 percent approval rate in 2019, or just one percent more than China and 3 percent more than Russia. Germany, meanwhile, was far ahead with 44 percent, writes The Guardian.
The survey was held in 135 different parts of the world before the Coronavirus exploded. This means that the United States may fall even more into global popularity because of the mismanagement of pandemic, which has left the US as one of the most affected countries.
Donald Trump has openly claimed to have made America respected again in the world, but the survey implies completely the opposite.
The U.S. was the most popular country in the world for each year during administration time Obama (but 2011, when it was over from Germany), but then its popularity dropped by 18 percent when Trump took office of president. /Periscope
