Immediately after identifying the first cases with Covid-19 in Kosovo, the Kosovo Security Force established the state of operational readiness at level 2 and established the Task Force, with the aim of managing activities around the pandemic. But, the KSF refused to take advantage of the government package, which shared additional payment from 300 euros to employees of the essential sectors that are directly exposed to the risk of infection. Army leaders say they have done so in solidarity.
Arben Ibishi, a theatre in the Kosovo Security Force, now serves for 10 years at the transport company in the endurance regiment.
During the Pandemia period with Covid-19, it has carried Kosovo citizens from the “Adem Jashari” airport to quarantine centers.
We've served day and night, day and night when citizens needed it, we've gone according to command orders, we've approached them and we've carried them where they need. ...There were after several citizens, there was anger over the situation, there was fear, there was always, but with the behavior we did towards them, we always had a good time and we didn't have any problem”, says Corporal Arben Ibishi.
The Kosovo Army, with specialised units to carry out operations under Civil Authorities Military Support, according to KSF deputy commander Enver Cikaqi, put personnel, equipment and systems on alert to protect citizens from the spread of the virus.
Our <x0). We've used those capabilities that were requested by mission for us, sometimes we've increased our capacities, our units, by adapting to the situation”, says Cikaqi, writes Cosovapress.
During the pandemic period, units of the KSF's Logistics and Military Police Command conducted transport activities from all border points to the centre of quarantine.
These units have also provided support to tents, containers and surveillance equipment at Kosovo hospital centres.
Lt. Florent Sadiku, platoon leader at the Stability Regiment Supply Company, says the mission has to provide support with transport, supply and maintenance, but during the pandemic it served as needed.
“Task Force that we have created depending on needs, we have made transport of personnel, transport of equipment, assembly of tents, transport of citizens and other states to the resort center of Vranidol, we have also made the transport of several British citizens with citizenship to Rinas, we have not been limited to the activities we've been doing, but always remaining within the KSF” mission, says Sadiku.
During the pandemic, the Kosovo government decided to pay an additional 300 euros to employees of the essential sectors, which are directly exposed to the risk of infection.
But the KSF made the decision not to accept the means, and the same recommended addressing other needs the state has in combating the pandemic-related crisis.
It's not that our members have not needed financial support, each has their families, each has been particularly endangered by those who have been directly in different operations, but I think it's been an attitude, assessment, even the commander's decision in this case to return and not take that portion of the fiscal package that has been addressed to the KSF. This is all about solidarity in such a situation... We have estimated that this is the best thing we can offer in this situation to citizens of our country, taxpayers of our country”, says General Cikaqi.
The Kosovo Security Force has put static and mobile medical teams on alert and mobilised the KSF Medical Centre.
The force has supported the Department of Internal Affairs and Public Administration Operational Centre, and municipal emergency headquarters with headquarters officers.
Our subx0). We had a total of 15 members, and we've been ready for 24 hours. There are times when we were active in different parts of the day, and all the members were willing. It is worth the motivation of members who have had it and which has resulted in a very successful work”, Sadiku says.
Corporal Arben Ibishi has also seen to it that transportation is disinfected.
As if we've taken care of ourselves, we're bound to take care of the vehicle, whether it's a bus, printer or nation, that every time we've been carrying members and we're back in the barracks, the vehicle has been disinfected and has not dared to use two hours, at least two hours, until we're pretty sure that the vehicle has no one to carry the virus or anything.
The Kosovo Security Force has also had additional teams on alert, which would be activated in case of need in order to complete their mission in service to citizens.
