French news agency Agence France Presse has reported that Lesotho's prime minister, Thomas Thabane, has resigned yesterday.
The 81-year-old prime minister is charged with killing his wife, Lipolelo Thabane, in 2017. Their divorce period became quite noisy until one day she was shot dead in front of her home in the capital city of Maseru.
Thabane's present wife, Maesaiah, who married several months after Lipolelo's death, is accused of her murder. The prime minister has been nominated as a suspect, but has not been formally charged.
After ignoring repeated calls for him to resign, the Thaban Coalition government collapsed on Monday. Parliament will meet again next week to appoint the new prime minister.
Thabane's request for immunity from prosecution after leaving office was rejected last week by justice.
