120 carts are located today in “Square Skenderbeu”, and the message of this initiative is that it has to be done more in respecting the rights of disabled children.
And the number of chariots has been chosen to be the number of Kosovo Assembly deputies, so MPs can take into account the rights of disabled children.
This shot was done by the U's office. NICEFs in Kosovo and Handikos.
Riyad Mehmeti, 16, has demanded that the country's institutions do more for disabled children.
The message of this event is clear that we should be equal to others. What institutions do for us is that it's not enough, they may as well be equal to us, such as physical access... because physical access is just one of the biggest causes that have enabled children with limited ability to move”, he said.
Handiko's director, Africa Maliqi, said that through this initiative, they want to send the message to 120 MPs to do more for the rights of disabled children.
The disabled persons have adapted you to much easier quarantine because they're always isolated and always in quarantine because they're not access or free movement. This is dedicated to all of the population and society in their awareness, but in particular to our institutions and the Parliament that in the creation of laws, the rights of disabled children, but also adults, in the realisation of their rights and in particular the establishment of access... There are 120 carts dedicated to 120 deputies to convey a message that will always consider the rights of persons with limited abilities”, he said.
Maliqi said that based on a research they have done has turned out that Kosovo meets only 30 per cent of standards dealing with the rights of disabled persons in relation to European legislation.
As far as approach is concerned, he said only 6.7 per cent of the standards are complete. That, according to him, shows how discriminated against disabled people in Kosovo are.
The deputy boss of U n NICEF in Kosovo, Dren Rexha, said that through this initiative, they want to convey the message that is the time of the end to realize the rights of disabled children.
“We have set up an injection of 120 disabled children's carts, each containing a bag that symbolizes disabled children who should be at school and who do not follow lessons. The message is that even in this time of pandemic, we should think about disabled children. It is the last time that all of us together, institutions, private sector, civil society, do everything we can when we get back to the pandemic in a new normal situation to make sure that we have a comprehensive society that will carry out the rights of disabled children”, he said.
These carts will stay for a week in “Square Skenderbeu” in Pristina, reports KosovaPress.
