Reports showed that police used tear gas at the border, a common event since Turkey stopped blocking migrants from reaching Greece and Europe last week.
But tear gas was dropped, and on the other hand. It wasn't clear who fired.
According to Greek sources, about 12,500 migrants gathered across the border in the Evros region in the northeast.
Meanwhile, the Greek navy sent a ship to Lesbos to take the new migrants aboard until their transfer to a closed camp on the continent.
