Social Democrat Initiative Chairman Fatmir Limaj has confessed his experiences of confronting international justice in The Hague.
On the 15th anniversary of his innocent proclamation by The Hague Tribunal, Limaj has spoken extensively for 33 months of his pre-prisoned stay in Shevinga, Holland.
“From Pogdorica Carla del Ponte has revealed the indictment to me when I was in Slovenia. And two weeks later they sent me to Sheviningen. Thirty-three months I've stayed there”, he said. In a summary presented before the show in RTK, where moments were shown since the release and arrival at home, Limaj has remembered Hajredin Bala, who was accused with him in The Hague and who no longer lives.
Limaj has also remembered his parents and the woman who no longer lives and his relatives who appeared on video. “Haga was created for Serbian crimes that were committed in Bosnia, Croatia... We have seen it as such a form of Serbian criminal judgment. And then the war in Kosovo and our perception was that this court was for Serbian crimes and Milosevic's crimes. When the indictment came against me I was surprised, I was also surprised how the Albanians were being tried, Limaj said.
He then said they didn't escape from justice after they knew they were innocent and had nothing to hide from their past.
The court determines whether you are or not you are guilty, even though it was injustice to us. The situation was fragic in Kosovo at the same time, independence was far away. My worry was for people to accept this decision calmly.
It is unfathomable to be in prison with those killed by 4,000-5000 people, with people convicted of genocide, with Serbian generals such as Krstic, etc., and”, Limaj said.
And getting into that environment, it's hard emotionally, but in these situations you have to trust in God and justice and you have to face it until the final act of”.
Limaj later showed who he was staying with in Shevinningen prison.
I stayed with the chief of UDB a year, with Ivica Stanisshicin. There were also Croats, Serbs, and Bosniaks. One floor below was Milosevic, Sheheshel was also there. With part of us living together, they were charged with crimes in Kosovo and in Bosnia”, Limaj has confessed.
“We have the opportunity to discuss with them for a year, many topics, such as before the war, after the war. We didn't speak to Milosevic, even though he tried to speak. Sheshel was the same one, as in Belgrade, it has remained there”.
Limaj has called Kosovo luck and the court at The Hague's Tribunal.
It's luck when you have a serious court, because it gives you security and feels good. It feels good to have a jury that's very professional. There were judges who couldn't be affected from outside. Judges who didn't allow anything that appeared that wasn't in the law, in the procedure, and led that process with unique professionalism”, he said.
