In order to prevent sexual harassment in public administration bodies, Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti has drafted government policies for the protection of gender equality.
On the day the 16-day campaign was launched to eliminate violence against women, the head of government said it would ban any behavior or act that violates each employee's personal dignity in the Public Administration.
“Based on the principle of protection from discrimination and aimed at developing a safe and impartial, professional and responsible work environment in all institutions without exception, we today mutually adopt the policy against sexual harassment in the public administration bodies in Kosovo. With this policy we advocate equality among genders that are the fundamental value of democratic development in our society, through bans on any act, or behavior that violates personal dignity in each employed in public administration bodies”, he said.
Happy with this government policy, Kosovo Centre for Gender Equality Director Luljeta Demolli said it would contribute to the protection of gender equality.
“The policy against sexual harassment at the country of public administration in Kosovo contributes ultimately to the protection of gender equality as the fundamental value of democratic development of society and the state of Kosovo. It aims to prevent any form of action leading to the violation of each individual's personal dignity, each employed in the public administration in Kosovo. This policy presents the necessity of installing EU directives”, she said.
And for concrete implementation of that statement, Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti pledged.
We must promote and distribute this policy and take concrete steps in its implementation. Certainly the prime minister's office is obliged to take all necessary measures to function in implementing this document and this policy by conducting a national campaign for awareness of all institutions at both the central and local level”, he said.
In addition, Prime Minister Hoti during the day has had a meeting with women, promising financial support of 2m euros.
On the evening, he is expected to attend the lighting ceremony of the orange - colored government building as part of the International Campaign for Eliminating Violence on Women.
