The FDA said monoclonal antibodies should be used to treat patients, children or adults, with moderate and moderate symptoms of COVIDD-19, in which the disease is at high risk to advance in more severe symptoms. This includes dealing with those who are 65 years old or with certain chronic diseases.
Treatment is part of a type of drugs known as monoclonal antibodies, which are copies of antibodies produced by the human body to combat infections.
The Regeneron company said on Saturday that clinical trials with non-exploited patients suggest monoclonal antibodies such as GREEN-COV2 produce greater results when they are given immediately to diagnosis and to those patients whose immune system has not yet responded to the disease or high viral burden.
The company said it expects that by the end of this month there will be sufficient doses for the treatment of REEN-COV2 of about 80 thousand patients, while in the first week of January there will be doses for about 200 thousand other patients and 300 thousand by the end of that month (janar).
The FDA says antibodies have not been authorized to be given to patients admitted to the hospital because of coronavirus or to seek oxygen therapy due to COVID-19.
