Social, insufficient for over 25 thousand families in Kosovo

Social assistance from 60 to 180 euros per month is seen insufficient for nearly 250,000 families in Kosovo, depending on it. Although this number fell for several hundred families from the beginning of 2019 to the end of the year, the situation is still being assessed as disturbing.

Even the year we left over 250,000 families have benefited from social aid schemes. In the first three months of 2019 alone, 24 thousand and 955 families, with 102 thousand and 35 members, received social assistance from the state.

This number was reduced for a few families at the end of the ninth month of the preceding year. According to the Kosovo Statistics Agency, in September that number was reduced to 24 thousand and 526 families, with 99 thousand and 718 members.

This number is being seen as disturbing by organizations dealing with the protection of citizens' rights. According to them, the pension determined by the number of members a family has, which is brought in from 60 to 180 euros, is insufficient for them.

Determining social assistance is made for a family according to the number of family members and the cost of consumerizing the food basket, which is regulated by a sublegal act, which the ministry releases. This suggests that the only person, the one-member family, receives $60 per month (Mimalja), and the 15-member family (Maximalja) in one month receives 180m a month. Aside from the family's primary assistant selected for the social assistance scheme for every 18-year-old child makes an additional financial profit of 5,00 euros, in order to promote education and improve their health.
