Kurti commemorates Ibrahim Rugova on the 14th anniversary of his death: Wise Albanian Avoiding Conflicts

Kurt called it Mr. Rugova as the engaged and humanist <x0-intellectual> that has survived conflict, rational man and passionate about language as history and as an institute, and as a wise Albanian who loves his people as he is”.

Afterwards, he has divided four fragments of his four interviews, three for foreign media and one for a Kosovo newspaper, writes Periscopi.

But what is behind what Mr. Kurt? He is known as a follower of the KLA's 1999 war and sacrifice for freedom, and Rugova's mention as “humanist who has averted conflicts” may be somewhat suspicious. However, Kurt knows him as a humanist as a fellow ideology, and that's a matter of appreciation.

Whether Kurt will honour Rugova's political activity by going to the grave as other institutional leaders is unknown.

Dr. Ibrahim Rugova has been a literary critic of switching from structure to French post-structuralism during the years ʹ70s, engaged intellectual and humanist who has survived conflicts, rational man passionate about language as history and as an institute, and, wise Albanian who loves his people as he is.

British historian Noel Malcolm has stressed that President Ibrahim Rugova, on the one hand, has joined the Kosovo Albanians against Serbia, meanwhile, has internationalised the Kosovo issue. He has taken care of the people of Kosovo, but not alone. Next are four extracts from his four interviews, one for the German press (1992), the other for the French (1994), third (1991) and fourth for Kosovo's (1992):

Spiegel: Is there a chance that Serbia will accept your request for an independent state of Kosovo?

Rugova: The alternative to that could not be the goal for Serbia thus a construction of the ongoing crisis within its borders. We would be willing to declare ourselves neutral and give up right now joining Albania. However, I must admit that our goal, to join Albania, is a natural goal.

Question: What are your proposals for the existence of Albanians in a medium-term perspective?

Answer: Along with all other representative parties of the former Yugoslavia Albanians, we have formulated three options. The first required an independent Kosovo, security for Macedonia's Albanians to be recognised as a nation of statehood in Macedonia and self-government for the Albanians of Montenegro and southern Serbia. This first option was based on the hypothesis of not changing borders between the republics of the former Yugoslavia. If the borders changed, then we wanted a Republic to bring together all Albanians of the former Yugoslavia. That was the second option. The third option: if they changed international borders, we wanted their union with Albania.

We have been waging war in Kosovo for ten years, but if it comes to open conflict, normally we will know how to protect ourselves. Granted, Albania is here, and we will even seek help from all those who support our case. I hope there won't be a war, but we Albanians always have war and death with us, so we don't fear even the eventual war. If you come to war, be with as few victims because we have given many young sons and daughters to our cause. In this situation it is normal to have more radical individuals and groups in this great movement of peaceful resistance, but in this situation it is difficult for radicals to do something.
