Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry announced it has called to the report the Russian ambassador and handed over the letter, which it has declared “persona non grata” to the two diplomats. They have 48 hours to leave Bulgaria.
On the other hand, the Russian Embassy said the two diplomats would leave the Balkan country, but insisted there is no evidence of the charges they are burdened with.
Moreover, this embassy said Russia reserved the right to take reciprocal measures against Bulgaria after that decision.
Bulgarian authorities accused one of having collected data on the election process, while the other for spying on the energy sector, writes “Free Europe”, Report Express broadcast.
Bulgaria, Russia's loyal ally during the communist era, became a member of NATO in 2004 and part of the European Union in 2007.
