Kosovo's “Police with their work has significantly reduced smuggling in the country's north. Police have only managed to reduce criminal acts this year to 20 percent<1>.
So says Interior Ministry Minister Ekrem Mustafa in an interview for Online Economics.
Kosovo's “Police have good access to the north, smuggling does not have as it did before because it cannot be eliminated either in us or the whole world, but we have to minimize these negative phenomena. Kosovo and the police have managed to reduce all criminal acts and abuses over 20 percent by criminal acts, traffic accidents, armed robbery within this year. Since February until last week we had no bank robbery”, Mustafa said.
And, speaking of security in this part of Kosovo and police interventions there, as well as the reactions of Serbian leaders, Mustafa says that territory is Kosovo's and Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq cannot give the order that when Kosovo police can enter it.
The “Action in the north has not been intervention in a territory outside Kosovo, it has been an increase of police forces in a region controlled by Kosovo police forces. There has been an action against members who have violated official duties, especially police officials who have been misappropriating in their official office. We can't give orders to Vucciki that when he intervenes in a territory of his own, neither can Vucciqi give orders when we must intervene in our territory. It is the sovereign territory of Kosovo and we must keep order and law in that territory of Kosovo”, he said.
The incumbent said Kosovo Police are now producing security in the region because they are responding to all global and regional security mechanisms.
Kosovo's “Police have long been a consumer of security in the region, from now on it is producing security in the region and is responding to all global and regional security mechanisms. We as the Kosovo security institution have made arrangements with several states in the region, such as Albania, Montenegro, have co-operation with Macedonia, except with the northern neighbour that does not have co-operation. Kosovo police, even though it is not involved in mechanisms such as Interpol and Europol, have the liaison offices where we receive information from each individual no matter whether we are members”, he says.
Although Kosovo has, according to him, fulfilled all the criteria for being an Interpol member, and Europol says that this is not happening because even these institutions are politicised.
“We have fulfilled all the criteria for being a member of Interpol and Europol. Europol is a mechanism that without membership in the European Community you cannot join. In Interpol we have had opportunities to join even last year, even earlier because Kosovo police and our institutions have fulfilled all the criteria for membership, but unfortunately this institution has been politicised”, he said.
With his arrival at the helm of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MPB), Mustafa says he has managed to return a tender of 1m and 200 thousand euros to 400 and 18 thousand euros.
The greatest “Suxes are statistics. The MPB has made the reorganization of the ministry and the new bodyogram, which is on the rise in co-operation with internationals. MPB is an institution that was created. The MPB has managed to absorb large donations this year, save public money and manage it, and we have managed to turn a tender of 1 million and 200 thousand euros to 400 and 18 thousand euros”, he said.
And speaking of the administrative directive to facilitate procedures for residence permits, which was taken days ago, Mustafa says it was the Government of Kosovo's duty to carry out much earlier.
He says that from now on persons who have five-year residence permits have the right to education and have the right to have Kosovo identification documents. In addition, all those persons have the right to open businesses in Kosovo.
