Coronering municipalities because of legal conflicts

Women in this area are forced to go to private control centres. And the lack of gynecologists in these municipalities is due to legal conflicts.

So said today at the “political subjects' debate about the question of municipal-level gynecologist”, organised by the Kosovo Democratic Institute.

Adelina Hasani from KDI said many Kosovo municipalities face lack of gynecologist and women are forced to go to maternity centres because of the distance from their settlements.

There have been many other cases of fatality in some municipalities, where some women have been forced to take birth on the street because of the very long distance between the gynecologist and the settlement they are in. But this also presents the biggest problem for women living at a large distance, but also taking on the very serious economic situation they face in order to obtain these gynecological services”, she said.

Hasan, among other things, said there are also municipalities that have no maternity wards, and do not offer gynecological services. These women, based on research, Hasan said they are forced to go to private centres to conduct checks.

In this regard, Agim Chaka from the Initiative coalition - AKR-PD, said the lack of gynecologists at these centres is the result of legal conflicts.

This matter has not been fixed so far in our municipality. On the basis of the discussions we've had there, the issue of legal conflict that is supposedly not allowed to have the gynecologist there is a question of why the gynecology department exists there. The moment there is infrastructure and there's the potential to have a gynecologist there, if there are legal barriers, then I think we should intervene there and avoid this problem”, he said.

Besa Battiu of the Social Democrat Party said this issue has also been discussed in the Commission for Health, Labour and Social Goodness, however, the government has been responsible for making a solution.

The administrative instruction for primary care organization enables family medical centers to have gynecologists, pediatrics, or netologists. And that hasn't happened despite what happened to the matter being closed. If we are to go and health develop in Kosovo on the basis of the principles of the World Health Organization, if we are based on this, then according to the UN every 3 thousand women should be a gynecologist, which does not happen”, Baftiu said.

Among other things, she said Kamenica said that on the basis of the population of 360,000 people, there must be six gynecologists, but that this municipality has not been four years of gynecologists.

Arben Vitita from the Vetevendosje Movement in the debate stressed that there were competitions in Kacanik, but there were no gynecologist who applied for jobs.

This is natural because all gynecologists target either the QKUK or the secondary level, because even the possibility of professional development in these institutions is much greater than in primary care. I think there should be a public discussion among all interest parties, in this case including associations representing patients' rights and an agreement between family doctors, gynecologists, midwives and pediatrics.”, Vitia said.

In addition, Haxhi Avdyli from the Democratic League of Kosovo has criticised the Ministry of Health, saying there has been no interest and priority for improving the health sector.
