The country's president, Hashim Thaci, on 4 July, on the 243th anniversary of US Independence Day, has sent a letter to his American counterpart, Donald Trump.
In this letter, President Thaci has written that on this day, Kosovo remains proud as the most pro-American state in the world, sharing our common values and the principles and vision for a free and just world. US President Thaci has expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Kosovo for their support in our worst times and for their support in rebuilding our country and society after tragedy and war destruction. “Today, we work with the United States of America in strengthening peace and stability in Kosovo and in the region”, wrote President Thaci among other things.
This is President Thaci's full letter translated into Albanian:
Your Honor Mr. President, on the 243th anniversary of the Day of Independence of the United States of America, he conveys his most sincere congratulations on behalf of the people of Kosovo and on my behalf as president of the Republic of Kosovo. On this day, Kosovo stands proud as the most pro-American state in the world, sharing our common values and principles and vision for a free and just world. This July 4th in Kosovo we are celebrating with the inauguration of the new US Embassy, a testament to the continued strengthening and deepening of our friendship and our strategic partnership. This year Kosovo commemorated the 20th anniversary of the entry of US-led NATO peacekeeping troops to bring freedom and peace to Kosovo and the region. We are always grateful for your support in our worst times and for your support in rebuilding our country and society after tragedy and war destruction. Today, we work with the United States of America in strengthening peace and stability in Kosovo and in the region. Referring to the letter you sent me last December, let me confirm that I remain committed to reaching a final peace agreement with Serbia, which will bring lasting peace and stability between our countries and the entire region. In the critical phase in this process, let me stress that your leadership and vision remain central to that goal. God bless the United States of America.
Honestly, Hashim Thaci
Kosovo President
