Kastrati: KSF defends Kosovo territory, even enters north

Former KSF Commander Kadri Kastrati says the Security Forces are tasked with protecting the country's territory, and they can do that in the North. Until NATO Secretary General at the Internal Ministers Meeting held in Brussels in early February, he said the KSF cannot enter the north [...]
Until NATO Secretary General at the Meeting of Interior Ministers held in Brussels in early February, the KSF said that it cannot enter northern Mitrovica without KFOR permission, otherwise says former KSF chief.
With laws adopted in the Assembly paving the way for KSF to become an army, no one can prevent this organisation from operating throughout Kosovo's territory. The army has not been formed only for a part of Kosovo, has been formed for the protection of the country's integrity and sovereignty. This means that borders where they are, if threatened by anyone, the military will have the right to act based on the competencies and obligations it has, to protect Kosovo's borders. This means that if required by Kosovo institutions, the president, the Government, or the Parliament, the military has the right to operate even in the north. So the number one task the military has is to protect the borders of Kosovo”, he has indicated.
Kastrati has stressed that with the formation of the military, Kosovo opens the way for membership in various organisations.
“Now we have the journey towards organisations as regional as the Adriatic Charter is, and I hope that Kosovo will be a member very soon, as well as NATO membership and other international bodies. The Kosovo Army on the basis of laws has begun to move to meet all capacities towards a modern army, and for that it takes time, budget and commitment. For 10 years the Kosovo Army will fulfil all capacities. So as long as it doesn't accomplish all this, it can't be an operational army. For that, we have KFOR, NATO, which has two tasks, those of preserving Kosovo's borders, as well as helping the KSF freeze its capacity”, he stressed the telegraph. com
Among other things, Kastrati has mentioned KSF intervention in the north. He has said that if the country is in danger of borders, the military has to intervene.
According to Kastrati, Belgrade officials' statements concerning what the KSF has no right to intervene in the north are not right.
“Belgrade cannot declare the state of Kosovo. We are a sovereign state and all actions for the state of Kosovo take over our institutions. The Kosovo Army is not formed to attack its citizens, but the obligation two coming out of the law is to protect the lives and property of Kosovo citizens. Kosovo citizens living in the north, whether Serbs or other communities, are Kosovo citizens, and the military is tasked with protecting them”, he has declared.
