“Flija”, anthropological study on Kosovo's patriarchal culture

But besides taste and fame, I slept as food is an important part of Albanian cultural heritage.

Recently, even in Kosovo, the book “Flija” has been published, through which it is taught to show Albanian crère culture through symbol and sacrifice practice.

The author of this book, Arsim Canol, who is at the same time professor of anthropology at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Pristina, in an interview for Periscope has confessed more about his latest book.

Cannolly says that the idea of writing a book about sleep was not entirely random, since he studies against anthropology for ten years.

Beyond food or bread, as stated in the people, one country's culture, cultural diversity, cultural exchanges, outlook for hospitality, tradition and change, etc. Since I slept is one of the icons in Albanian cuisine I wanted to write about my sacrifice, but starting from it and going to the legacy, society, state, etc. The sacrifice goes off and the sacrifice goes out, but the book is a culture behavioral study”, says Cannolly for Periscopi.

The book is divided into eight chapters, and in each chapter the ratio between the offering and the social aspect has been discussed.

Canolly says that through this book, he has been aiming to show the weight of sleeping in Albanian society, analyzing it on a vast cultural and social horizon.

“I wanted through studying sacrifice as essential in Albanian tradition to examine Albanian behaviour and culture in the context of these aspects, focusing mainly on Kosovo. Over the past two decades, we've experienced an intense phase of statehood. In this intensity, Kosovars have wanted to identify and develop some of Kosovo's cultural symbols and practices, wanting to highlight them as Kosovo's Albanian culture, always in the context of statehood, but also to revitrate tradition, such as the negotiation process of developments and new social changes”, Canolli says.

Canolly took many years to complete this scientific study on luxury culture, which was crowned with the publication of the book “Flija”. He conducted field studies in Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro and Macedonia, interviewed many people and analyzed relevant literature.

Yet, Cannolly says that there are still people who have misunderstood the contents of the book, thinking that it is a culinary book with various recipes for the sacrifice.

There are also misunderstandings because a number of people have written me, thinking it's a culinary book showing the different recipes for sleep. But this book is anthropological study of culture through the symbol and practice of sacrifice. So it's a study that has references, tests, comparisons and discusses very broad subjects. But it is my pleasure to respond to readers when they write to me, but I also enjoy reading and listening to the ridicule, irony, prejudices of those who have not read the book. It's just fun! But I would be very interested in reading the thoughts of those who read the book, whether they are academics or not. Because I've been trying to write the book as simple and as clear as possible for the average reader. I hope I've made it out of”, Canoly says Periscope.

The book “Flija” was first published in Tirana by the Albanian Academy of Sciences in 2018, and a year later it was reprinted in Kosovo after readers' request.

“Flija” is the third book in a row in the course of Professor Arsim Canol's publications.

Meanwhile, Kosovo has introduced the sacrifice to the defence list as cultural and spiritual heritage, and when Kosovo is admitted to the U. NESTO, the Ministry of Culture is expected to propose and put it into U. NESTO as Kosovo's cultural heritage. /Periscopi/
