EU Enlargement Commissioner: Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue Expected to End by late 2020

EU Commissioner for Neighborship and Enlargement Oliver Varhely, in his first appearance since receiving the mandate for the post, has also talked about the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, saying he will work with European Union's new Foreign Policy Chief, Josep Borrell, to wrap up dialogue. “High Representative [...]
“EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Borrell has already said dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina will be his priority. I will offer all my help in that direction and hope to complete by the end of next year”, Warhely said, speaking at the European Parliament at the round table dedicated to the Western Balkans' Eurointegrations.
Varhely said that “is important for the new government in Kosovo to be formed as soon as possible, as important jobs must be expected”.
We expect the new Kosovo government to work on continuing dialogue with Serbia, which is being held under the EU leadership, including the removal of 100 per cent tariffs for goods from Serbia and BiH”, Varhely said, broadcasting Telegrafi.
As REL reports, Varhely said the Western Balkans remain a priority for the EU and for it personally.
The Western Balkans region has real perspective on the EU, but to make this reality it needs to focus on real reforms in the region. Economic investments, freedoms for people, raising living standards must be priorities. The commission early next year will present the report for strengthening the enlargement process”, Varhely has indicated.
Varhely has said a strong political commitment to reform is necessary, not for the sake of the EU, but for the citizens of the countries of the region. He has demanded that the reform process be comprehensive, and according to him, at this point, the role of the national parliaments should be key.
“I want the process to be more dynamic, not only the focus on opening and closing chapters. It should be allowed as early as Balkan countries get involved in some policies even before they join the EU. People don't need to wait for membership to feel the Benitories”, Varhely said.
