Confirms Mustafa: Tomorrow I meet with Merkel's envoy for negotiations with VVA

He made these comments after the meeting of the LDK General Council, where he has been negotiating the performance of talks on forming the new government, which have been put on hold due to the failure to reconcile the presidential post.

The Vetevendosje movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo have so far held 11 meetings, but unable to reach the final agreement, despite those two parties, which came first in the 6 October elections, say they have an approach.

LDK leader Isa Mustafa said the LDK is committed to achieving a coalition for co-governance with the Vetevendosje Movement and that it will continue to respond to VV's invitations to future meetings.

“The LDK estimates that this coalition should not be seen as a coalition of rivalry, but as a coalition of partnership, which will be destined to make necessary changes to the country's better governance and offer development prospects and the legal state of Kosovo. The council was convinced that the LDK should be assessed in this agreement in addition to the support it received from citizens in the 6 October elections, whether it is sharing responsibilities with VV, even in the governing programme that has harmonised... We will continue to respond to the VV invitation for future meetings. We assess whether there is political will, the issue of the agreement can be reached. Part of the deal should be all positions and those positions are in harmony with our coalition, or eight years later, and by no means as a coalition that will be challenged by specific moments as from the election of President”, Mustafa said.

Asked whether there is international pressure on reaching the deal, President Mustafa said he has not met with US Ambassador Philip Costet, but with QUINT ambassadors from whom he has sought their help in the process of reaching agreement on forming the ruling coalition.

He said tomorrow he will meet with Merkel's envoy from the CDU to negotiate negotiations on reaching the ruling coalition.

I have not personally met Ambassador Costnet, but I have met with QUINT ambassadors, who I have announced the negotiation process and asked that they affect us in this process. There has been no extenuation application for ambassadors, but there has been hope of goodwill that this will be done as soon as possible, while tomorrow, yes, I will meet Peter Bayer, who will be here in the early hours of the day”, Mustafa said.

Regarding whether the problem lies in the post of president, Mustafa said that in 2014 the then coalition was formed after six months, but now he expects this to be done earlier even though there is no VV readiness for the president's post to have the LDK.

“I never wanted this coalition to be reached after six months. I had wanted this coalition to be reached before the 26th of this month, so that Kosovo's constitutional and Assembly sessions would be successful. The president's case is one of the issues to be discussed, because it's one of the positions that will be challenged during this period and I consider that it is not a matter that we will necessarily block, because it is a matter of trust and trust, but not issues that will happen today. We will continue to work with the VV and verify for a year whether we are serious or not and I don't see any obstacles the VV has to agree to make a commitment to its partner to support that position to have the LDK as candidate, just as we have the trust to the prime minister coming from the VV, and we don't ask questions about whether it should or shouldn't be”, Mustafa said.

He has announced that the moment the VV invites them for talks, the LDK is ready.

Regarding the Interior Ministry issue that it meets the LDK, Mustafa declined to comment, saying all ministries are important.

He said the moment the VV was hired when the president's post issue was resolved, the LDK would offer one of its ministries, but has not received positive answers.

While VV leader Albin Kurti said earlier that he could seek the name of the LDK ranks for president, President Mustafa said they have not yet determined names for president, nor for ministers, nor for deputy ministers, nor for Speaker of the Parliament.

He has already warned of other steps the LDK will take if there are no final agreements on forming the government.

“We will name the presidential candidate at the moment the presidential election procedure begins... Even Vetevendosje has asked us in conversation whether you have a plan B. We have told them that our B plan is to go into opposition. No other plan and no other action will be taken. If we make the government with the VV, we do, if we do, we accept no mandate from the president and we don't make any arrangements with other parties”, said Mayor Mustafa.

He has also commented about the constitutional session of the Parliament on December 26th, saying that the issue also belongs to the VV as the winning party, and that under the agreement the Speaker of the Assembly will be from the LDK ranks.
