Leader of The PDK, Kadri Wessel, through a columnist published in American media, has said it will continue to stress the importance of promoting a strong alliance with the United States of America and Western partners.
The American media “News”, but several other American media have published an opinion of Wessel, where he confirms that he will continue to mention global efforts of the Trump anti-corruption administration and discuss the fact that his Anti-Corruption Plan is based on American principles and policies, broadcast news.
This is the complete column of Wessel published in American media:
“US, Kosovo are united democracy against corruption
This week, the people of Kosovo will make a historic choice with greater implications for the entire region. We are holding our fifth free and fair elections in the history of our new nation. Our proud and national people will decide whether our country continues to be a fan of hope and a shining example of Western values in the Balkans, or to take another path, which will question our alliance with the United States and NATO.
I am confident that our nation will continue to make the best choice this October 6th for both our local and foreign interests, especially with the great opportunity we have to move forward thanks to our firm alliance with the United States.
I fought in the battlefield side by side with Americans when I served as one of the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army. In fact, if the United States had not led NATO's defence for Kosovo, I might not be alive today. Your commitment to protecting human universal rights has freed more people worldwide than any other nation in history. And every day that Kosovo continues to progress and succeed, it serves as a demonstration of success achieved by American compassion and strength. I entered the political scene only in 2012, when I joined the Democratic Party of Kosovo, a party founded by former rescue fighters. One of the main pillars of policy drafting in this party has been maintaining strong partnership with the US, and our former leader and prime minister has maintained close contact and exchange with each American administration at the highest levels.
We've been in power for a long time and some of our people have made mistakes. However, we are the only party that has the honesty to admit failures and mistakes and we have the courage to address them. Since my first minute in the PDK chairman's position, I devoted myself to reforming the party and repairing the wrong actions, removing any official from power with charges of corruption or nepotism. Instead of blaming others, we started by ourselves. Moreover, I invited young people to take command and lead, appointing some new ministers in the previous mandate. I believe that one of the best ways to fight corruption is to bring in fresh blood, engaging talented young professionals, providing them with a chance to succeed.
As you can imagine, this was not an easy task, and older ones fought us every step along the way. However, I am fully satisfied with their work and anti-corruption reforms and will continue with this strategy of close co-operation with young people in the future as well.
These days, our party is the only one who does more than promise, but has taken real action. Under my leadership, The PDK is competing in this election with a list of candidates that have no single candidate accused of corruption or nepotism. Our list is filled with young activists, very qualified, not compromised by corruption, full of energy and a good will to cope with the challenges ahead.
Our party is the only one who has offered a clear vision, a comprehensive and well-thinking plan to rid this country of corruption and nepotism. It is the only party that has the courage to deal with false veterans and fully restore the dignity and glory of the Kosovo Liberation Army. Moreover, alone The PDK has a strategy to legalise construction without permission and remove the anxiety of hundreds of thousands of families who cannot benefit from their homes due to lack of property documentation.
Our party has a concrete action plan to present our promises of campaigning when it comes to fighting corruption. Within the first 100 days of the new government, we will initiate a full series of radical reforms aimed at clearing the system of things of corruption, strengthening the long-term law, in modernising our institutions in line with the highest Western standards. Likewise, we will limit opportunities for corruption through degradation, electronic governance and encouraging free and fair market competition. Through a public awareness programme against corruption, our social reforms will be permanent. Our programme will promote personal integrity and civic responsibility in order to harmonise the rights and responsibilities of an individual to the law in our culture.
During this final week of my campaign, I will continue to stress the importance of promoting a strong alliance with the United States of America and our other Western partners. In each of my speeches, I will continue to mention the global efforts of the Trump Anti-corruption Administration and discuss the fact that my Anti-Corruption Plan is based on American principles and policies.
Our citizens not only embrace this message but are thrilled when I mention the United States and President Trump. The energy is really amazing.
The people of Kosovo understand that a strong partnership with America will help Kosovo become stronger. Our nation has great faith in America's moral guidance and example worldwide.
My message is based on experience. I had the honor of meeting President Trump on the morning of the 2017 National Prayer in Washington, D.C. Even at the beginning of his presidency, he showed a keen interest in the diplomatic and political issues of my country during our discussion.
I also want to seize this opportunity to assure the American people of our commitment to our alliance. Please ignore the anti-American rhetoric of my opponents you can see next week.
Also, do not worry about their past statements by rejecting or ignoring recommendations coming from Washington when it came to demarcation of the border with Montenegro or the dialogue process. Only a misinformed small part of our electorate supports negative and irrational positions against The United States. They are not representatives of the true trust of our country in your ideals and the extraordinary gratitude that prevails in Kosovo for the help you receive in expensive times.
When I become prime minister, Kosovo will always consult Washington and be inspired by you in order to fully realise my country's potential and bring prosperity and opportunity to all our citizens. Our alliance will only be strengthened because, like President Trump's administration, our next government will take real action that will produce the best results for all our citizens.
Kosovo is ready for a new courageous course towards greatness.
